IPF is the only competent world governing body for the sport of Parkour. IPF is recognized by national Olympic committees in many countries.

Parkour is a physical discipline and training method that involves efficient movement through one’s environment, typically in urban spaces, using techniques such as running, jumping, climbing, and other acrobatic skills. It emphasizes overcoming obstacles with speed, fluidity, and adaptability. Freestyle Parkour, aka Freerunning, is a related but distinct movement discipline from parkour. It incorporates elements of parkour, focusing on fluidity, creativity, and self-expression in movement. Freerunning often includes acrobatic flips, spins, and other aesthetic movements, emphasizing personal style and artistic expression while navigating obstacles and the environment. Unlike parkour, freerunning places a greater emphasis on creative and expressive movements rather than purely efficient or direct routes.
